Although the drumsticks will be done after 3 1⁄2 to 4 hours in the slow cooker, we recommend placing them under the broiler just before serving to brown them and to set the glaze.
How to Make It
1. Rub chicken with oil. Sprinkle with salt, and place in a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker. Add stock, syrup, sambal oelek, and soy sauce. Cover and cook on low until chicken is tender and done, 31/2 to 4 hours.
2. Preheat broiler with oven rack 5 inches from heat. Remove chicken from cooker; place on a baking sheet, and brush with cooking liquid from cooker. Broil until browned, about 5 minutes, turning halfway through broil time.
3. Transfer cooking liquid to a saucepan, and heat over high. Stir together 1 tablespoon water and cornstarch; stir into cooking liquid in pan, and bring to a boil. Boil, stirring often, until thickened, about 5 minutes. Brush sauce over chicken before serving.
