These wings get very tender as they cook slowly in the flavorful sauce, and then a quick run under the broiler results in a nice, crispy exterior.
How to Make It
1. Combine apple cider, soy sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, and sambal oelek in a 6-quart oval slow cooker; add drumettes, and stir gently to coat. Cover and cook on low until chicken is done, about 31/2 hours.
2. Preheat broiler with the oven rack 6 inches from heat. Remove drumettes from cooker, and place on an aluminum foil–lined baking sheet coated with cooking spray. Broil until drumettes are lightly charred in spots, 1 to 2 minutes per side.
3. Increase slow cooker heat to high. Stir together cornstarch and 2 tablespoons water in a small bowl. Add to cooking liquid in cooker, stirring well. Cover and cook, whisking occasionally, until sauce has thickened, 15 to 20 minutes. Sprinkle drumettes with cilantro, and serve with sauce.
