Oat Milk Ice Cream Is the Vegan Treat We Never Knew We Needed
In the wake of oat milk pandemonium comes the best alt milk news of 2019 thus far—we are getting oat milk ice cream! Dairy-free pioneer, So Delicious, just announced the release of their latest line on Instagram yesterday. Their “oatmilk frozen desserts” are currently in select stores, but will go nationwide in the coming months.
The frozen desserts come in three flavors: Peanut Butter and Raspberry, Oatmeal Cookie, and Caramel Apple Crumble. Each serving (2/3 cup) ranges between 230-250 calories. These flavors also have between 8-10g of saturated fat and 20-25g of sugar per serving, so they should certainly be considered an occasional indulgence instead of a vegan health food.
So Delicious has been bringing dairy-free alternatives to the market for over 30 years, and more companies are starting to follow suit. Major ice cream brands—such as Ben & Jerry’s, Haagen-Dazs, and Magnum—have all released non-dairy lines of frozen desserts. Vegan Magnum ice cream bars just launched in the U.S. yesterday, in classic and almond flavors, giving dairy-free consumers the opportunity to relish the iconic vanilla ice cream in a crunchy chocolate shell.
