I truly believe Ina Garten can do no wrong, especially when it comes to whipping up a perfect menu for a dinner party. Her meals are often simple, but always special. And her favorite summertime dessert is no exception.

In season eight of the Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten made a mixed berry pavlova for her husband, Jeffrey’s, surprise birthday party on the beach. In the episode, Garten says, "It was named after Anna Pavlova, who was a famous ballerina," she said. "I think probably because the meringue looks like her tutu."

The recipe, which layers delicate meringue, berries, homemade raspberry sauce, and whipped cream, sounds hard (Ina did give the recipe an “intermediate” difficulty rating on her website.) However, it can be made ahead of time and chilled until guests arrive. Plus it looks gorgeous, and Ina says this is “one of her favorites” for summer.

If you love the idea of a pavlova (I mean, who doesn’t?), check out our version. Our Strawberry, Basil, and Balsamic Slablova will wow guests—whether it's your husband's birthday, or just a Saturday cookout. Plus a serving has just 208 calories, 10g of fat, and 26g of sugar—so you don't have to worry about whether it's healthy. You can make it right on a baking sheet, and switch up the toppings to suit your own tastes.

As Ina would say: How easy is that?
