Dunkin’ Just Launched Two New Breakfast Bowls—And They’re Actually Pretty Healthy
We’re usually not fans of fast food—especially since most drive-thru meals can add unwanted calories, fat, sodium, and sugar. Plus, ultra-processed foods have been linked to higher rates of obesity, chronic disease, and mortality.
But sometimes you don’t have the option to make a homemade meal, and need something quick. That’s why when we find something that’s healthy and convenient, we want to shout it from the rooftops. Enter Dunkin’s new Egg White Bowl and Sausage Scramble Bowl.
The Egg White Bowl is made with egg whites, spinach, roasted potatoes, cheddar cheese, and caramelized onions. It clocks in at a very lean 250 calories, and has 14g of protein. Not bad! The Sausage Scramble Bowl is a little heartier, and is made with scrambled eggs, sausage, melted cheddar Jack cheese, peppers, and onions. It's still pretty reasonable, at 450 calories and 21g of protein.
Of course calories and protein are only part of the story. We've reached out to Dunkin' to ask about the fat and sodium contents—and will update this story when we hear back.
What caused the donut-maker to start offering healthier options? It turns out people really want them: “We found that our guests craved innovative, accessible, better-for-you menu choices," said Tony Weisman, Dunkin’ U.S. chief marketing officer, in a media release.
Dunkin’ Bowls are currently available nationwide, but if you want to try one you may want to hurry—for the moment at least, they’re not a permanent part of the menu.
