I Tried One of Those Blender Bombs—And They Made My Smoothie So Much Better
I’d been in a bit of a breakfast rut lately, and was sick of feeling my stomach rumble before noon every day. I was on the lookout for something easy and nutritious that would both power me through my morning workout and keep me full until lunchtime.
I love following food and health accounts on Instagram for meal inspiration, and have been seeing testimonials for these “Blender Bombs” everywhere— how much they’ve helped people lose weight, regulate their digestive system, curb cravings, and have the energy to keep up with their kids. I decided to give them a shot, and I’m officially never looking back.
I loved the Blender Bombs right away, as the nutrition label and ingredients list are impressive (and, okay, the packaging is really cute!) Plus, they pack in 70 percent of your daily potassium needs—a nutrient most Americans don’t get enough of. Adding one of these to my smoothie made it feel like a satisfying meal for once, and I didn’t even start daydreaming about my lunch until it was actually time to eat it.
Blender bombs are essentially nutrient-packed balls made from whole, plant-based ingredients that you can pop into your blender for a fat-, fiber-, and protein-boosted smoothie. They come in seven varieties, from cacao & peanut butter to goji, coconut, & acaí. I opted for the original and aloe & collagen flavors. I also think they would make a perfect snack on their own!
Each variety is made with similar ingredients—like dates, nuts, and seeds—that can be expensive on their own. I liked that I could get a ball full of flax, chia, hemp, and other “superfoods” without buying bags of them at the grocery store to individually portion into my smoothie every day.

I like to experiment with different flavors—like peanut butter and jelly with frozen raspberries—to curb my powerful sweet tooth. I love the way the Blender Bombs improve the texture of my smoothies without affecting the flavor (or having a weird aftertaste.)
Blender Bombs were created by Helen Hall, founder of Hushup + Hustle, a wellness brand focused on living an 80/20 plant-based lifestyle, free of food guilt and anxiety. Hall created these Blender Bombs to help her large Instagram following realistically achieve greater health without the hassle. They look like energy bites you might find at a health food store or coffee shop, but are much lower in sugar and more nutritious.
Blender Bombs are currently sold solely on Hall’s site, hushupandhustle.com, and you can even set up a monthly subscription if you are as into them as I am! They also sell a grain-free Blender Bomb granola for topping your oatmeal or yogurt, but I like snacking on it straight from the bag.
The nutrition is pretty similar across all seven varieties, and the original flavor has 130 calories, 8g of fat, 11g of carbs, and 4g each of fiber and protein.
