Wife and Mom Drops 30 Pounds with Cooking Light Diet After Health Scare
Federal Contract Specialist Stephanie Bellanger lives in Richmond, VA, with her stay-at-home husband, Frank, and their 3-year-old son, Leo. We recently spoke with Stephanie about how she discovered the Cooking Light Diet, and how it's changed her life since joining in April 2016.
After I had my son, I was diagnosed with postpartum cardiomyopathy. I kind of just allowed myself to live with that diagnosis like, "Well, I guess that's it, and this is how things are going to be now." And besides the weight I gained with the pregnancy, I'd kind of gained even more weight after that. Then a couple other things happened in quick succession. My sister's fiancé was diagnosed with diabetes, and then almost immediately afterwards his health went into a spiral and he ended up having to have his foot amputated. Then we had another family friend who was in his 50s die of a massive heart attack.
So I was going for my yearly checkup with all these things in the back of my mind. The cardiologist said, "You have pre-diabetes, and you have sleep apnea. You're too young to have these types of conditions. You really need to get this under control." I asked what was causing all this, and she said it was my weight. "If you could lose this weight, then probably most of the conditions you're suffering from would go away. It's all weight-related," she told me.
I said to myself, "If I'm going to do this, I have to do something that I know I'm going to stick to. I can't do something that I'm going to struggle with." So I started Googling, and one of the first things that came up was the Cooking Light Diet. I read reviews, all of which were positive, so I joined.
I like the fact that it wasn't just a diet for me. It was something I could cook for my family without having to worry about, "Okay, so now what am I going to do about him [Frank]? What am I going to make for the baby?" I was making the same meal for everyone, and IT WORKS! That's one thing that's so awesome about it. It works! There's a girl that's an intern in my office. She has to go away for classes and then she comes back, so she'll be out of the office for a while and then she'll come back. And I was in the office a couple weeks ago, and I'm walking down the hall and she said, "Stephanie?! What did you do?! What are you doing?!" And I told her about [the Cooking Light Diet] and she said, "Oh my God, you look great!"
I love that type of reaction because you know how it is when you're trying to lose weight. You see a difference on the scale, and you might see it in your clothes, but just a little—like, your clothes aren't tight anymore. Sometimes you're like, "Am I really losing?" You can see it, but you can't see it. So when someone you know does that, it just gives you that boost!
Not only is the Cooking Light Diet working, I know I can stick with it. It's not something that I'm wondering what I'm going to do at the end of the year once I lose the weight. It's something I know that I can switch to 1800—or whatever—and continue to do for the rest of my life.
You know what's funny, too? We recently went to a food festival in Richmond, and we love fair food—cheese steaks, funnel cakes, etc. My husband got a cheese steak, and he took a bite and was like, "Do you want this?" And I told him not really. It tasted like salt and grease, and I didn't want it. This is something I never... if someone had told me two years ago, "One day your spouse is going to say this cheese steak is too salty and greasy," I would've said they're crazy. But Frank says it's because of how we eat now. I can't eat like that anymore, you know? It doesn't even taste good. So something like that makes me know this is something that we can do for the rest of our lives."
