Food on a Stick!
There's something fun and appealing about foods on a stick and eating with your hands. From skewers and satay to pops and dipped apples, these hands-on recipes are guaranteed to have you feeling like a kid again.
First up, these skewers are a simple, quick, and fresh-tasting entrée. Shrimp cook fast, making them great for the broiler—but watch the time and keep an eye on them so they don't overcook and dry out.
Boasting just 82 calories and a boatload of vitamin C, these double-decker pops feature a sweet-tart lemon layer topped with a minty watermelon layer. If you prefer one flavor over the other, double the amount of ingredients required for each layer and make single-flavored pops.
Assemble skewers the night before; brush them with the oil mixture before grilling. Flavor oil mixture with dried ground herbs to suit your taste. Look for okra pods of similar size to assure even grilling.
Named for the abstract expressionist's signature paint-splattered canvases, these apples make great party treats. Green Granny Smiths go well with the sweet white and bittersweet chocolates, but use any apple you like. Look for wooden sticks at craft supply stores.
Although imported swordfish is endangered, the population for North American species is healthy. Check with your fish seller to make sure the fish you purchase was caught in the United States or Canada.
