For kids, Halloween is all about spooky costumes and filling their jack-o-lantern with candies, chocolates, gummies, and more. And while all Halloween candy is a treat, you might be surprised to know that some of the sweets kids collect are actually vegan.

Even better? The vegan candies are just as delicious as all the rest. Whether you're looking for vegan treats to add to your trick-or-treat giveaway pot, or are just curious which of your favorite Halloween classics are vegan, here are 15 surprisingly vegan (and even healthy, in a few cases) treats for tots.

Leah Johnston, RDN, is a registered dietitian who recommends the classic Sour Patch Kids, which are totally vegan. “It can be hard to find a gummy candy that doesn’t contain gelatin, but we can celebrate that this classic candy doesn’t contain the animal-derived product,” she says. Loved by kids and adults alike, this one is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Skittles

The great thing about Skittles is that they are generally easy to find and an affordable option for vegan trick-or-treaters. Plus, they’re a Halloween staple! Grab a bag of the fun-size packs at your local grocery store or drugstore and pass them out this Halloween.

These peanut butter cups are vegan and come in a few different flavors, like fluffernutter, classic peanut butter, cookies and cream, and lemon almond. They’re soft and double stuffed, which make them very filling, and they are also low-carb and keto, with their sweetness coming from monk fruit and allulose.

Smarties

Luckily, you can usually find the classic Smarties lumped into many Halloween candy variety packs, so there’s always a vegan option no matter how "non-specialty" your local grocery store is. They are also free of soy, gluten, and nuts.

Enjoy Life Bars

“The Enjoy Life brand is great for kiddos with allergies as their products are completely free from common allergens, gluten, and animal products, and the mini dark chocolate or rice milk chocolate bars variety pack is perfect for Halloween and boasts a clean ingredient label,” says Johnston.

Dum Dums

“Containing a variety of flavors and a short ingredient list of recognizable foods [for example, the peanut butter chocolate chip flavor has just four ingredients], these mini bars are a great vegan sweet,” says Johnston. Plus, they have a bit of protein and are low in added sugars.

Laffy Taffy

Laffy Taffy minis and ropes are vegan-friendly—but note that the regular size Laffy Taffys (as referred to as “Stretchy & Tangy”) are not vegan because they contain eggs.
