Our Favorite Sweet Potato Pie Recipes
Pies come in all shapes and sizes this time of year, but there are a few classics that no holiday table is complete without. What's topping that list? Sweet potato pie. We'll start you off with a basic recipe that is complemented with delicious Spiced Cream Topping—you won't be able to resist.
Tangy cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk combine for a creamy contrast to the sweet potato layer. You can prepare this pie up to two days ahead and refrigerate.
Five-spice powder is a blend of cinnamon, cloves, fennel seed, star anise, and Szechuan peppercorns that can be found in the spice aisle of most supermarkets. If five-spice powder is unavailable, use pumpkin pie spice.
To cook the sweet potatoes in a flash, pierce each one a few times with a fork, place in a pie plate with two tablespoons water, cover loosely with wax paper, and microwave at high five minutes or until tender.
Be sure to look for the pure maple syrup to use in this recipe. It adds just a hint of sweetness that doesn't overpower the other flavors of the tart. You can make this dessert up to 2 days ahead; keep it refrigerated until you're ready to serve your guests.
