Buy A Better Dog

Despite its dubious nutritional reputatoin, the average frank actually beats a basic burger patty by about 100 calories (assuming you don’t go the foot-long route; food shouldn’t be measured in feet). Try organic, grass-fed, or uncured wieners, which tend to have less sodium. Aim for less than 150 calories, 4.5g sat fat, and 400mg sodium. Here are three of our favorites:
APPLEGATE THE GREAT ORGANIC UNCURED BEEF HOT DOG
Calories 110; Fat 8g (sat 3g); Sodium 330mg
BOAR'S HEAD SKINLESS BEEF FRANKFURTERS
Calories 120; Fat 11g (sat 4.5g); Sodium 350mg
APPLEGATE THE GREAT ORGANIC CHICKEN HOT DOG
Calories 70; Fat 3.5g (sat 1g); Sodium 360mg
(Applegate’s Organic Uncured Turkey Hot Dog is equally tasty.)
