Win a Weekend Getaway

Thanks to the San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival, we’re hosting a special giveaway this week for our Facebook fans. This exciting event brings 70 restaurants, 170 wineries, celebrity chefs, artisans, and lovers of great food and wine together Nov 17-21^st in beautiful San Diego for a culinary-palooza. A wine expert and educator once taught me that describing a wine in terms of a famous actor or actress can sometimes tell it all. Let’s practice: A glass of shiraz is like George Clooney, rich, dramatic, and sometimes a bit wild. And dessert-worthy Sauternes can be as preciously sweet as Dakota Fanning (in Charlotte’s Web, not the Twilight movies). You can do this in broad terms by variety, but it also works well to describe a particular wine you love.

If you’d like to play, here’s how it works:

Step 1: “Like” us on Facebook (use the Facebook box to the right and click “Like” if you don’t already like us).

Step 2: Describe for us here in 50 words or less a wine variety or specific label in terms of a famous entertainer, politician, or other public figure. Entries should be typed into the comments field of this blog post. Entries are due by Tuesday, November 2 at 11:59 a.m. EST.

Editors will select their favorite based on originality, creativity, and how well you address our question. Winner will be notified via email by November 4, 2010. For full contest rules, click here.
