Spring is here, and the heat is coming along with it. We at Cooking Light consume a crazy amount of carbonated water, especially in the warm months, and sometimes the pileup of cans just gets to be too much! Enter: The SodaStream. I'm pretty much obsessed with this product- I drink a lot of water working in the kitchen and fizzy water just makes getting my 8 cups a day in more fun! I simply fill the canister with cold water, place it into the SodaStream and ta-dah! Fizz! My immediate go-to is a squeeze of fresh lemon, but I thought it might be fun to come up with a few, fresh, no sugar added soda recipes to mix it up a bit.

Watermelon-Mint Spritzer

I am so looking forward to sitting-on-the-porch weather, hanging out while the grill makes dinner and the dog plays in the yard. Idyllic, no? This watermelon spritzer is perfect for porch weather, and even if you crack open a watermelon and find it not-so-perfect inside, you can totally use it for juice.

  • 1/2 small watermelon, cubed
  • 1 bunch fresh mint leaves
  • 1 liter SodaStream carbonated water
  1. Working in batches, place cubes of watermelon in a blender. Blend on high until you have a smooth, watery mixture. Pour mixture through a fine-mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth into a large bowl. Using a wooden spoon, push as much juice as you can through the strainer. Discard pulp.
  2. Repeat process with any remaining batches of watermelon. Chill juice for 3-4 hours.
  3. In a large pitcher, pour juice to fill halfway. With a long-handled spoon, muddle mint into the juice. (The longer the mint sits in the juice, the mintier it will become.)
  4. Top with SodaStream carbonated water and enjoy! (Just a tip, this spritzer also goes well with 1oz of gin or other preferred liquor.)
