Why buy expensive chocolate-covered strawberries when you can make your own at home? They are so easy and delicious! Even better, they're totally customizable.

Whether you're making a batch for you and your sweetheart to enjoy or for a girls’ night, these DIY chocolate strawberries make the ideal sweet treat for Valentine’s Day in just a few short minutes.

First things first: Melt the chocolate; we chose dark chocolate chips for a richer, deeper, chocolaty touch. For 12 strawberries, microwave about ¾ cup to 1 cup of chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl for 1-2 minutes in 30-second increments. Make sure to stir every 30 seconds so the chocolate doesn’t burn.

Once the chocolate is melted, dip your strawberries and swirl them into the chocolate. Then place the dipped strawberry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Voilà!

For a fun twist, add a topping! We dipped ours in crushed roasted almonds, crushed pistachios, granola, and coconut. While we thought they were all delicious, we found the coconut and the plain dark chocolate-covered strawberries to be the prettiest on the plate. For the best results, dip the strawberry into the chocolate, swirl, then immediately roll in the topping.

To speed up the drying time, refrigerate for about 10 minutes or until the chocolate is firm. If you somehow don’t eat them all in one night, store the dipped berries in the refrigerator for up to three days. Enjoy!

For an extra treat, we suggest you pair with a glass of Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Cabernet Merlot. With a dark cherry, plum, and blackberry flavor profile, this full-bodied wine pairs perfectly with fruity, chocolaty treats.
