How to Cut a Pineapple
Getting to the sweet, golden center of a pineapple can seem like a pretty daunting task if you don't know how to go about cutting into it. Here's a quick and easy step-by-step guide with a couple of different slicing techniques.
First off, when selecting a pineapple just go for one that looks golden in color with a bottom that has a fruity aroma.
Step 1: Turn the pineapple on its side and cut off both sides. The ends can be pretty fibrous; so don’t be afraid to cut off at least half an inch.
Step 2: Stand the pineapple upright and trim off the outer skin, turning as you go.
Step 3: Use a pairing knife to remove any eye spots.
For rings: Turn the pineapple back on its side and cut half inch pieces. Use a small, round cookie cutter to remove the core.
For wedges: Stand the pineapple upright and split into quarters. Turn each quarter on its sides and remove the core. Cut the quarters in half vertically for smaller wedges.
For chunks: Split pineapple into quarters and remove the core, just as you did for wedges. Cut the quarters in half vertically and then horizontally into chunks.
