Good Food: Bittermilk Tom Collins with Elderflower and Hops
By Kate Malin
When the bartenders are making the mixers, cocktail lovers can be assured that they will be the highest quality with the best flavors. At Bittermilk, husband and wife team Joe and MariElena Raya draw on their years of restaurant and bar experience to produce inventive mixers made without additives or preservatives. Taking inspiration from classic cocktails, they enhance each recipe and brighten the flavor using creative ingredients and techniques.
Each mixer is comprised of a bittering agent, a sweetener, and an acid to create a balanced cocktail, made by hand in Charleston, South Carolina. For their Tom Collins, a refresh of a classic, Joe and MariElena added elderflower and hops to bring floral and citrus notes to a traditionally simple cocktail. Just add gin or vodka, finish with soda water, and stir.
Bittermilk Tom Collins with Elderflower and Hops is available at bittermilk.com and in stores across the country. Bittermilk is part of the Good Food Awards, a project to honor food and drink producers making the sort of food we all want to eat – tasty, authentic and responsible, and a proud member of the Good Food Merchants Guild, national association uniting American craft food businesses to connect, convene and promote Good Food businesses of all sizes.
