Your family is guaranteed to love this twist on the classic sandwich. Instead of a sweet, barbecue-style sauce, browned turkey, sautéed mushrooms, and wilted kale go into a white sauce made rich with nutty Swiss cheese. It’s creamy, comforting, and downright irresistible. Be prepared to abandon eating the sandwiches out of hand; they are so full of creamy filling that the whole thing is likely to turn into a knife and fork affair. Adults might enjoy a splash of hot sauce, so be sure to put a bottle on the table. Steamed broccoli would be an easy and perfect accompaniment.

How to Make It

Step 1

Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high. Add turkey; cook 6 minutes or until browned, stirring to crumble. Add kale, onion, thyme, garlic powder, and mushrooms; cook 6 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 2

Whisk together milk and flour. Add milk mixture to pan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer 5 minutes or until thickened. Remove pan from heat; stir in cheese, pepper, and salt. Spoon about 3/4 cup turkey mixture onto each bun.
