If you live in Canada, you may notice a certain flying mascot missing from boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios. That’s because the cereal company is raising awareness for declining bee populations across North America. As part of the #BringBackTheBees campaign, General Mills is giving away 35 million wildflower seeds for Canadians to plant and bees to pollinate.

In the U.S., General Mills has walked the walk in terms of taking action for the bee cause. They’ve created a bee sanctuary next to their research farm in Le Sueur, MN, funded a 700-acre almond orchard in California to produce bee-friendly almonds, and donated $1 of every box of Cascadian Farm’s Buzz Crunch Honey Almond cereal to the Xerces Society, a non-profit that focuses on bee conservation and research.

Way to go General Mills for calling attention to such an important issue. Maybe, instead of plastic toys in our cereal boxes, we could share the bee love with a packet of seeds!
