Here's how to beat makeup melt when the heat is on.

Step 1: Start Light.Heat, humidity, and outdoor activities can mean foundation quickly smears or slides. "The less layers, the better," says Maybelline New York makeup artist Melissa Silver. "Try a tinted moisturizer or a BB cream so you get SPF and light coverage in one product."

Step 2: Add Some Color.Opt for a sheer cream blush, which will mimic a natural glow and is more likely to stay put than powder formulas. "It also works well over makeup if you lose color throughout the day," Silver says. She also recommends switching to waterproof mascara in summer to avoid smudging.

Step 3: Set and Go.Finish with a light dusting of powder, like Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder ($10). Stash blotting papers in your bag for touch-ups. Mai Couture Founder Powder Paper ($24) absorbs oil and evens out your complexion.
