When strict dairy regulations forced The White Moustache out of California, founder Homa Dashtaki and her father (whose impressive facial hair inspired the name of their business) relocated to New York City determined to carry on making their traditional, hand made, Persian and Greek style yogurts. They set up shop in Brooklyn and soon developed a cult following for their outstanding yogurts, which are made by hand using Hudson Valley Fresh milk from upstate New York.
The White Moustache became well known and loved for the luscious line of yogurts they create, but they also recently began bottling probiotic whey, which is a delicious and healthy byproduct of yogurt making. Drinking whey is popular in Iran, where Homa’s family is from, but it is less common in the United States, where yogurt producers typically throw out their whey, which can have a serious environmental impact. Homa’s Plain Probiotic Tonic, the whey in its purest form, is naturally bright yellow-green and has a tangy taste, similar to yogurt, and is loaded with probiotics and calcium. It is perfect blended into a smoothie or mixed with fruit juice, which Homa recommends drinking after a workout.
