If you want to play up your lips… I love a good red lipstick, but cherry red can read a little too Mrs. Claus this time of year. Try a nod to rich burgundy, which was a big trend this fall. A sheer, slightly shiny texture will keep it more festive than vampy.
One I like: Nars Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Rouge Tribal
Keep in mind: The rest of your makeup should be clean and simple: a little eyeliner on the upper lid, a swipe of mascara, a tiny touch of blush.
If you want to play up your eyes… If you ever needed an excuse to bust out the falsies (eyelashes, that is), now’s a great time. Don’t be intimidated—here’s a great application tutorial from Oprah, of all people.
Lashes I like: Winks by Georgie are, admittedly, on the pricey side, but these are amazingly high-quality and last through many uses. If this is more of a one-time thrill for you, Revlon knows what they are doing and are more budget-friendly.
Still scared?: If false lashes aren’t your thing, try a shimmery shadow, black liquid liner, and an extra coat of volumizing mascara.
Keep in mind: Lips should be on the neutral side. Try a sheer, pink-ish gloss.
If you want to play up your skin… A little shimmer on cheeks—we’re not talking RuPaul-esque chunky glitter!—adds an instant dose of holiday fun. Just keep it light so you’re more of a dancing queen than a drag queen.
Shimmer I like: Try a sheer swipe of MAC’s Glamour Daze Extra Dimension Skinfinish in place of blush. This is a limited edition for the holidays, so you may have better luck finding it locally.
Keep in mind: Eye shadow and lips should be in a similar color family. I love the look of a warm champagne glow. ‘Tis the season!
