Avoid Listeria and Still Enjoy Your Favorite Frozen Treat

You've probably heard it on the news: Blue Bell and Jeni's are battling Listeria issues in their ice cream and frozen foods. Listeria, a bacteria, sickens about 1,600 people each year. It's the third leading cause of food poisoning-related deaths in the U.S. each year. It's not very common, but it is very scary.

If you're a fan of a nighttime scoop before bed, you might be leery of picking up a pint at the grocery store. Instead, we have a few frozen treat finds you might enjoy just as much (if not more).

Milk Chocolate Almond Shake: Cool off with the sweet flavors of almond milk ice cream and cocoa. Non-dairy ice creams are a great substitute for traditional dairy ice cream in any recipe, but here it's especially delicious because of its nuttiness. See more light (and tasty) shakes!

Lime-Basil Sorbet: For a clean, citrusy, and refreshing finish to your meal or the day, try this unique frozen treat combo. Use regular basil if it's all you can find, but don't be afraid to branch out and use some lemon basil or sweet Italian basil. See more Refreshing Homemade Sorbets.

Deep-Dish Strawberry Ice Dream Pie: The filling for this killer pie is somewhere between ice cream and mousse--a creamy concoction that's ridiculously easy to make. See more Frozen Pie Recipes.
