Whether you're shopping for hard-to-find china or great deals on gently used pieces, there are a number of interesting places to look:
• Replacements, Ltd., in Greensboro, North Carolina, has the largest dinnerware collection in the world. The company specializes in china but also does brisk business in flatware, crystal, and collectibles. (800-737-5223, www.replacements.com) 
• Edish specializes in secondhand dinnerware. Current patterns are sold for 30 to 50 percent off retail prices; discontinued patterns vary. The company has stores in Houston and Salt Lake City. (888-767-8282, www.edish.com)
• Ebay-the popular online auction site-features categories brimming with dinnerware (try Pottery and Glass and Collectibles) up for grabs to the highest bidder. ( www.ebay.com)
• The International Association of Dinnerware Matchers' online database lists nearly 50 dinnerware replacement stores in the United States and Canada. ( www.iadm.com)
