Soft-serve frozen yogurt came roaring back to the U.S. market about the time that Greek supermarket yogurts awoke a national appetite for real, tangy dairy. The latest twist: Some froyo places are self-serve. That's nice, if you know how to eyeball 3 to 3.5 ounces (weigh it first) and deploy a modest amount of toppings. But it's incredibly easy to go overboard—which the froyo sellers are probably counting on. The good news: Froyo is skinnier than most light ice creams and even supplies good-for-you probiotic bacteria (look for shops that sport the "Live & Active Cultures" seal of the National Yogurt Association). Wait—doesn't freezing kill the helpful little fellas? Nope, says the NYA. They sleep but they don't die, then wake up when eaten.
