While captain of the cross-country team at Ferris State University in Michigan where she distinguished herself with All-Conference honors in Track and Cross Country and won the MVP award in Cross Country in two consecutive years, Mackenzie considered herself a recreational cyclist. By 2004, she switched to cycling full-time as a member of the Maple Leaf/Redken Women’s Cycling Team. In her first season with the Colavita/Sutter Home Women’s Cycling Team, Mackenzie aims to capitalize on her accomplishments, including 1st place in the King of the Mountain competition at the Tour de Leelanau, and to learn from the top women cyclists in the world. When she’s not training or racing, Mackenzie enjoys playing the guitar and mandolin.
