Going with the Flow: Lexington, Kentucky

In Lexington, Kentucky, Patt Brower's 15-member supper club has embraced flexibility to keep their group active and engaging. With a vegetarian across the table from a person who doesn't consider tofu a real food, and balancing one member's preference for lots of spice, coming together for a common meal might seem an insurmountable challenge, but this group has managed to make it work.

Because the group is so large, each member brings their contributions already cooked to the monthly meal. The women do most of the planning, cooking and e-mailing, but even the men are involved in this supper club. They help out with wine and beer choices, pitch in with the clean up, and are always eager to help when grilling is involved. This group of friends is works to keep what's most important to them the same—sharing a healthy meal with likeminded individuals. "In this rushed lives we all lead, it [the supper club] is a moment of sanity and grounding, says Brower.
