In your wildest dreams, can you imagine having too much New England lobster? Surely
not. But you can find out what your limits are firsthand at this celebration of
Maine's seafood. Certainly, there are other things to see and do here at
Rockland's scenic Harbor Park -- the live music, the coronation of the
Maine Sea Goddess, and the Great Atwood Lobster Crate Race. But the ultimate attraction
is served freshly steamed. Last year, 95,000 visitors consumed 10 tons of lobster
as they sat back and enjoyed the view of Penobscot Bay.
"The lobsters are all the same size, pound and a quarter, and they're cooked
perfectly -- they're steamed, nothing added to them," says Alice Knight, vice
president of festival events. "People love it." If that's not enough, there's
also the Maine Seafood Cooking Contest, for which gourmands concoct seafood
fondues, crabmeat dips, lobster cakes, and chowders. Click to www.mainelobsterfestival.com
