Where to Stay in Rome
The renovated St. Regis Grand Hotel (Via Vittorio Emanuele Orlando 3, 06-47091; $373 to $933) has luxuriously decorated rooms and such perks as an English-speaking butler. Es Hotel, Rome's first boutique hotel, is decked out in the latest mod-urban fashion (Via Turati, 06-444841, www.eshotel.it, $250 to $300). The best mid-range deal in town is at Hotel Trastevere (Via Luciano Manara 24, 06-5814713, $78 to $100). Rome is one of the main stops on the backpackers' trail through Europe, so there are also many budget accommodations. The best of these is the hostel Beehive (Via Marghera 8, 06-44704553, www.the-beehive.com; $40 per person for a room with private bath), which is run by an American couple who relocated to the city and provide four-star service at two-star rates.
