Flavor description
Pesto, the quintessential Italian sauce, is a puree of basil, olive oil, pine nuts, and Parmesan cheese. Once made using a mortar and pestle, pesto can be made using a food processor and works well for freezing.

How to use
You can experiment with pesto by adding roasted bell peppers, artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes or almost any kind of nut. Swirl the bold sauce into penne pasta or use it to spruce up pizza, chili, or omelets. Add pesto to mayonnaise to enliven a sandwich of roasted bell peppers, tomato, and feta; drop a spoonful or two into a tomato and chickpea soup.

How to find
Ingredients for pesto are available in most supermarkets.
