Flavor description An egg-shaped tropical fruit with a musky, perfumy flavor. Because it contains numerous seeds, it’s generally enjoyed as juice or jelly. (pictured left)
The paste is firm, dark red, and sold in round, shallow tins or bars. It isn’t as delicate in flavor as the fruit, but it can be stored, unopened, indefinitely. It’s a convenience product that is sliced and served with cheese as an appetizer or melted and used in glazes and sauces.
How to find You can buy guava in several forms: whole, nectar and paste. Look for it in large supermarkets and specialty stores. To buy fresh, visit www.melissas.com and www.amazon.com.
