Flavor description
Cumin (KOO-min), an aromatic member of the parsley family with a pungent, nutty flavor, is at home with nearly any cuisine. Maybe that's why you'll find it almost anywhere you travel. For instance, cumin's earliest recorded use comes from ancient Greece--and it still figures into many Mediterranean dishes. But it also appears in Indian curries and garam masala, Mexican chili powders and salsas, Thai marinades, North African Berber spice mixes, and European sausages.

How to find
Ground cumin is located on the spices aisle of your local supermarket. Buy whole seeds ready for toasting online at www.spicehunter.com or www.ChefShop.com.
