About the contest:
More than 2,500 creative cooks from across the country sent us recipes for the first annual Cooking Light Ultimate Reader Recipe Contest. Entrants developed recipes for one of four categories: starters and drinks, entrées, sides and salads, and desserts. Recipes included one of four Golden spoon sponsor products: Ronzoni Healthy Harvest Whole Wheat Blend Pasta; Swanson Broth; 3-A-Day Milk, Cheese, or Yogurt; and Hellmann's/Best Foods Mayonnaise.

The top recipes were prepared in the magazine's Test Kitchens to determine the finalists, who traveled to Birmingham, Alabama, to make their recipes for a panel of outside judges. Following a long day of tasting and intense discussion, the judges chose category winners, who each received $5000. And one of those winners took home the grand prize of $10,000 and an active family vacation valued at $5000.
