Many of our co-workers here at Cooking Light are former teachers, so naturally conversations often work around to our days back in the classroom. The other day, we were sharing horror stories about stunts our students pulled. Copy Editor Jennifer Southall delighted us with a tale of a ninth-grader who sat in the last row during lecture, sucking audibly on a giant pickle. Jennifer, obviously flabbergasted, asked the girl where she got the thing. The student eloquently replied, "Out my pocket." Disgusted, Jennifer asked her to return it from whence it came, and as the student complied, Jennifer noticed it had some pocket lint on it. Mmmmm, linty pickles always get our appetites going.
But Jennifer's story did remind us of the times we used to sneak food into places -- most often the movie theater. Yes, some of us admitted to even bringing in an occasional beverage (remembering to cough really loudly as we popped the top of the can). With the prices of theater concessions now, and the utter unhealthfulness of typical concession fare, we've actually given some thought to going back to those ninth-grade antics. Of course, we'd never (officially) condone such an act. However, if someone were to resort to such childish behavior, here are some fun snacks that pack up nicely in easy-to-conceal zip-top baggies and don't make a lot of racket -- so you'll be spared the indignant stares of your fellow movie-goers who obtain their snacks by more conventional means.
