A basic waffle batter is usually a simple mix of flour, baking powder, salt, milk, oil, and eggs, plus any spices and seasonings you like to make it sweet or savory.

Preheat the waffle iron, and then coat the iron with cooking spray.

For a 4-inch waffle iron, pour about 1⁄3 cup batter onto the hot waffle iron. Belgian waffle makers require more batter to fill them out.

Spread batter to edges, and close lid.

The general rule is to cook the waffle until the iron stops steaming, but cooking times can vary, so check your manufacturer’s instructions. In general, each waffle will cook 5 to 6 minutes. Cook them a little bit longer if you like a crisper waffle.
